Our one-way Whole Ionian route is made possible by using Preveza airport on the Greek mainland which is conveniently located between Plataria in the north and Sivota (Lefkas) in the south.
This flotilla cruise begins at the charming village of Plataria on the Greek mainland and wends its way south to the beautiful island of Paxos, then Lefkas and Meganisi. This flotilla will also stop at spectacular Kefalonia and Ithaca before arriving at Sivota on Lefkas Island.
The next flotilla starts here and simply does the above route in reverse! This is our only Ionian flotilla cruise which regularly visits Parga, Paxos and Anti-Paxos as well as spending time in the village harbours and bays in the Southern Ionian. Meganisi, Lekfas, Ithaca and Kefalonia are all highlights of the Whole Ionian flotilla route. Keener sailors may also make it over to Kastos and Kalamos.
Sailing Holidays Ltd is the largest British owned and operated sailing holiday company. We've been in operation for 30 years now, and are proud of our family based culture that has introduced sailing to thousands of people over the years.
Sailing Holidays Ltd began life in 1976 as Flotilla Sailing Club. I (Barrie Neilson) joined the company in 1979 as
We put a proposal to the then owner, Tom Keen, to take over responsibility for the business and this was accepted. We altered the name to Sailing Holidays Ltd in 1987 to more accurately define what the company did and sprang into action with eleven Jaguar 27 yachts. Sixteen years later, we have 140 yachts in Greece (100) and Croatia, all of which are run as flotilla sailing holiday yachts.
We have a range of flotilla sailing holidays for beginners and keener sailors. The Paxos Area and the South Ionian are probably the easiest, although the Whole Ionian flotillas are not exactly global challenges! Our other three areas require at least having done one of the easier flotillas or experience or qualifications from elsewhere. They are the Saronic Islands, the Faraway Islands and the Dalmatian Islands of Croatia. The most "get-away-from-it-all" flotilla sailing holiday is our new Faraway Islands cruise which takes us to "the Greece we used to know". Our Croatian flotillas, by contrast, give a touch of luxury in that most evenings, you will be in very pleasant marinas, close to towns and villages. The nice showers and shore power mean you can even bring your hairdryer!
It's difficult to describe the atmosphere in print as the sounds, smells and ambience of the islands make cruising here a real escape from the daily grind at home.
The Greek island people are among the most welcoming in the world and their cuisine is perfect for the environment in which it is served. Grilled lamb and other traditional dishes with garlic, fresh herbs and olive oil will really crank up your taste buds!
When you arrive at Preveza airport you will be met by our representatives who will direct you to your transfer coach. Much work has been carried out on the airport and the nearby roads during the last year or two and it is now a shorter transfer than in the past! The tunnel at Preveza means that the transfer times are just over an hour to both our Ionian bases. You can look out over the islands and enjoy glimpses of fortifications and cities of antiquity.
